INTASC Standard 5:

Specific Category of Standard 5:
INTASC.5.A K: The teacher can use knowledge about human motivation and behavior drawn from the foundational sciences of psychology, anthropology, and sociology to develop strategies for organizing and supporting individual and group work.
INTASC.5.D K: The teacher understands the principles of effective classroom management and can use a range of strategies to promote positive relationships, cooperation, and purposeful learning in the classroom.
Understanding Sentence: The teacher knows that social interaction is just as important as the individual, and the teacher promotes social interaction as well as social behaviors.
Reflect:
The artifact that I chose for this standard represent it because it shows my understanding that individual and group work motivate children and that social interaction, as well as other social behaviors create a positive learning enviroment. The assignment that I chose was a Classroom Map Philosophy project in which we had to draw a classroom map to scale and then write about certain objects or placments of our room and how it relates to one of the four educational philosophies (Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism, Postmodernism). The goal of this assigmment was for us to see which educational philosophy we relate to the most. This artifact relates to these specific categories because in order to complete the assignment I had to use knowledge of these philosophies in order to understand and develop strategies that support individual and group work. As well as this artifact relating to 5.A, it also relates to 5.B because of previous knowledge I understand how an effective classroom works to support relationships, cooperation, and learning in the classroom. This is shown in the map that I drew. You can see the different area in which such aspects are being supported and it is also described in the paper that accompanied the map.
Project:
I think that this project shows that I am a learner that has learned about effective teaching in classroom and effective classroom setups that help children interact with each other as well as promoting individual time. I think that it has showed that I have been a learner that has put forth effort into being a teacher that wants to make sure that children have many different ways to learn. I think that I am becoming a teacher that is excited to implement some of the ideas that I had for this assignment into my classroom and I also feel that I am becoming a teacher that is comfortable with how I want to teach in my room and has ideas from all my schooling in how I want to run my future classroom. This assignment helped me figure out how I view my way of teaching and I think that after this assignment I have a better chance of becoming a better teacher since I know how I want my classroom to be.
